Vespa of Lewisville opened in January adjacent to their Volkswagen dealership. Their Volkswagen sales had normally been the strongest in the area but were still off by 30-40%. With the introduction of Italian scooters to the mix, not only is there another incentive to visit their dealership, they are also the ONLY VW dealership in Texas with a Vespa franchise, according to one of the owners.
So far, their gamble has been paying off. They are breaking even at the Vespa dealership which has helped them keep afloat along with the auto service area. The owners are looking to score a profit very soon.
They really thought out of the box. Not too far. After all it is still motor vehicle sales. But it was a complementery product to what they were already selling. With a little brainstorming, maybe there is a way for your company to find a new source of revenue in the same way. Find a complementary line or target for business that wasn't on your radar before.
